The Open Source InitiativeThe Open Source Initiative

Developing projects through the Trusted Adoption of Open Source for the Enterprise program (TAOSE) is the criteria for this group. TAOSE fosters awareness of open source software (OSS) as a viable alternative to commercial enterprise software, not unilateral adoption of OSS, and also the adoption of OSS when solid business and technology reasons dictate.

Active Involvement

The open source-based committee is the choice for Board of Advisor members interested in developing programs and possibilities that increase understanding of, and promote the adoption of open source software.

Committee members provide counsel, direction, and ideas for online and interactive projects. In addition to attending regular twice yearly board meetings, committee members may meet with each other and the Center staff for an additional meeting or two over the course of the year.

Committee members would also participate in the educational forums and events about open source produced throughout the year and to provide advice and guidance about future programming.  Past programs included the four-part Open Source Forum Series, which focused on presentations that described the component of the LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL) stack commonly used in many organizations. A recent development is the creation of a special interest group focusing on adoption of enterprise OS in academic organizations.
