"Transfer Shock" is natural. What can you do to feel
comfortable at your new school?
- Be prepared for the change!
- Read the college catalog and all information the new
institution gives you.
- Attend new student orientation.
- Visit your new campus before classes start. Know about
parking permits, student ID’s, bus routes, bookstore, location of
classrooms, library resources, etc.
- Connect with other students – join clubs, study in a group,
volunteer for committees and projects. Students who get involved in the
school and student activities become comfortable sooner and do better
in their studies.
- Get the name and number of at least two students in each
class. You will have someone to contact if you have questions about an
assignment.
- Know your professors expectations. Read the
syllabus!! Refer to it often. Meet with your professors during
their office hours (listed on the syllabus).
