The Center for Strategic Information Technology and Security presented "Working with a Placement Firm in Your IT Job Search" with Dan Everett from Robert Half Technologies at the Minneapolis campus.
Everett's one hour presentation outlined what a placement firm is, what job seekers can expect from a placement, the intake process, coaching, interviewing, and job placement through a placement firm.
He also focused on practical advice for creating "winning" IT résumés leading a highly interactive discussion on how to organize a résumé according to a position’s requirements, and an applicant's experience and skills. He explained what hiring managers look for in a résumé, and how they review them. Dan also described résumé mistakes to avoid and how to post a résumé online.
Student members of the Center for Strategic IT and Security at Metropolitan State University, Inver Hills Community and Technical College and Inver Hills Community College received email invitations and announcements were posted on the web sites of each institution. Several students from programs outside of IT attended. They saw the workshop information on the web site. Students said they found the information very useful and helpful in their job search.
