Help "Right" the Future of Minnesota IT Workforce

Stages for Success

An Outline of the Stages of Success:

Stage 1: The IT Workforce Summit (see the recap below this section). Your participation made the Summit a success, and your continued support will "Right" the outlook for IT in Minnesota. Thank you for your efforts.

Stage 2: Ideation Evaluation (this is where we are now). All the ideas generated at the Summit require clarification. On June 12 ideas will be ready for the rating process.

Group 1 PDF (number/readiness of HS students)
Group 2 PDF (number/quality first-time college grads)
Group 3 PDF (displaced/underemployed workers)
Group 4 PDF (Enhancing capabilities current IT workers)
Group 5 PDF (labor market mechanisms)
Group 6 PDF (other strategic ideas)

Both participants, and those interested in making a difference to the IT world, can rate the ideas (using Dialogr) produced at the Summit using the following question and rating system: To what extent do you believe this idea would contribute to the overall purpose of promoting a more robust IT workforce in Minnesota with one star equaling limited potential, and five stars indicating a top priority effort.

Stage 3: Initiative Formulation
After the ideas have been rated, groups will be gathered (based on the interest survey cards from the Summit) to initiate action. Steps will include:

  • Feasibility study (who/what/where/when)
  • Partner development
  • Project planning
  • Project funding
  • Implementation

Stage 4: Reporting & Evaluation
Monitoring and oversight of projects will be undertaken by the Center for Strategic IT & Security with its partners.

Summit Recap

Summit Recap

Morning presentations from Diane Morello (Gartner), Dan McElroy (DEED), Bruce Steuernagel (MnSCU) and Kyle Uphoff (DEED), and a word of encouragement from Congresswoman Betty McCollum started the Summit by offering diverse viewpoints, data, and thoughts on both current and potential future job outlooks. During the afternoon, participants, working in small groups, generated ideas that will translate into actions.
