IT Workforce Summit

IT Workforce Summit Launches Initiative

RECAP: On June 12, the IT Workforce Summit, with over 120 registrants, launched a dialog with the express purpose of changing the predicted decline in IT workers.

Ongoing Effort

Morning presentations from Diane Morello (Gartner), Dan McElroy (DEED), Bruce Steuernagel (MnSCU) and Kyle Uphoff (DEED), and a word of encouragement from Congresswoman Betty McCollum started the Summit by offering diverse viewpoints, data, and thoughts on both current and potential future job outlooks. During the afternoon, participants, working in small groups, generated ideas that will translate into actions.

MOMENTUM: Those attending voiced excitement and optimism for the future of this initiative. “Keep it going!” was the most sentiment often expressed. And the Center will do just that. Both participants, and those interested in making a difference to the IT world, can rated the ideas produced at the Summit using the following question and rating system: To what extent do you believe this idea would contribute to the overall purpose of promoting a more robust IT workforce in Minnesota with one star equaling limited potential, and five stars indicating a top priority effort.

Darren Dannen Receives IT Nomination

CSITS Program Receives Nomination for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Information Technology, Information Security and Privacy

Darren Dannen, Senior security project manager for the Center for Strategic IT & Security provided leadership for the timely completion of campus security assessments at all MnSCU campuses and the Office of the Chancellor.

The Information Security Assessment Program provided a baseline of the current security practices and posture for protecting private data of the students, alumni, staff and faculty at each of the MnSCU institutions and identified common issues that can be addressed through system-wide initiatives.

This nomination, the only one submitted by MnSCU this year to the national association, reflects outstanding work over the past 18 months and truly outstanding accomplishment.
